With Brave Wings She Flies

A crowd gathered tonight in Broken Bow, Nebraska to honor Chrystal Esch. “Cris”, the owner of Costa’s Styling Salon was known in town for being a friend to everyone, a huge Husker fan, and a big supporter of her grandkids. ❤️

I spoke to Cris not long ago and we talked about her grandkids. While most grandparents had been separated from their family due to social distancing, Cris said, “I’m so lucky, most grandparents couldn’t see their grandkids when Covid shut the country down. I’m pretty fortunate, I got to spend every day with mine.” We continued to exchange stories. She asked about my kids and parents, just as she did every time, I’d visit with her. I’d show her new pictures of the kids and she’d talk about her kids and grand babies. ❤️

Many of Crystal’s family, Anselmo-Merna classmates, along with friends and community members attended tonight’s candlelight vigil. Everyone was encouraged to wear either A-M, Broken Bow, or Husker shirts. Dave Birnie, owner of KCNI/KBBN provided the audio equipment, playing her favorite music and letting the crowd share their stories, and the kids released red & white balloons. ❤️

Cris’s death has left what feels like a gaping hole in our community. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with her family to face the difficult days ahead. Cris will be sorely missed by many. RIP my sweet friend. ❤️
